On the Sixth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Six Geese A Laying

On the Sixth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Six Geese A Laying…

Welcome back! Just five days ago we celebrated the birth of Christ and I bet many of you are already back into the swing of your normal day and have already forgotten that we are still in celebration!

Actually, every day should be a day to celebrate, however, we often get hung up in our daily routine that we forget to be thankful for all that has been provided to us. I know how guilty I am of this!

Just this morning I was having a “moment” because I focused on all the things that were going wrong rather than all the things in my life that are great.

As Maltbie D. Babcock said:

It is so easy to get caught up in our life’s troubles on a typical day.

I challenge you, and myself, to wake up tomorrow with the feeling that, it “is” Christmas Day and carry with you that magical feeling of appreciation in all you do.

The Thanks Offering~1st Art Gallery

Wake up tomorrow and give thanks to our Lord for this is the day that the Lord has made!!

In our Twelve Days of Christmas song today we will give thanks today for Six Geese A Laying. “This is not referencing six geese laying eggs”!

This is referring to the six days of Creation!

*

The first day: Gen. 1:1-5 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. … And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. … And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

*

The second day: Gen. 1:6-8 And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters… And it was so.

*

The third day: Gen. 1:9-13 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.”… And the earth brought forth vegetation… plants… and trees.

*

The fourth day: Gen. 1:14-19 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,”’ and it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.

*

The fifth day: Gen. 1:20-23 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let the birds fly above the earth”… so God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves with which the waters swarm… according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.

*

The sixth day: Gen. 1:24-31 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so… Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness… So God created man in his own image…

*

There is absolutely “nothing” to add to this…”you” are here!

See you on the “Seventh Day of Christmas” tomorrow… “Seven Swans A Swimming”

Wishing you a wonderful and blessed day!

On the Fifth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Five Golden Rings

On the Fifth Day of Christmas My True love Gave to Me Five Golden Rings…

Five Golden Rings
(Licensed Image Source: mccready)
God gives us the first Five Books of the Old Testament, known as the Torah or the Pentateuch: 1) Genesis, 2) Exodus, 3) Leviticus, 4) Numbers, and 5) Deuteronomy.

These are the five gold rings.

These first five books of the Old Testament represent the history of mans fall from grace. These books are written by Moses and are his instructions or teachings. The term Torah refers to the entirety of Judaism’s founding legal and ethical religious texts. A Torah scroll refers to writings on parchment in a formal, traditional manner by a specially trained scribe under very strict requirements.

In Luke 24:44 Jesus said:

“These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

See how this ties in with the gift of the Old and New Testament where we need both to see how what is prophesied in the Old is fulfilled in the New?

These Twelve Days of Christmas sure gets deeper and deeper as I learn more and more about this song. I so encourage you to study more about the Twelve Days of Christmas and the meanings behind each of God’s gift.

It is truly amazing to learn about the Bible starting with a song instead of opening the Bible and just reading. It puts it all in perspective how all of God’s gifts are all a part of our daily life. It didn’t start the day “we” were born. It started in the beginning….

On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Four “Colly” Birds

On the Fourth Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Four Colly birds… No, this is not a typo. Originally the song was written to say “Colly Birds”.

Four Colly/Calling Birds

Google… “free stock photographs”

Colly meaning black birds. Colly means “black as coal”, in old English, as in “colliery”, which is a coal mine and its connected buildings dated back to 1635 according to Webster’s Dictionary. Not the most attractive representation.

Since the song was written, the word Colly had been changed to Calling Birds as we know it today.

This is one of the best illustration and representation pictures… You can get it at Google.. “free stock photographs”

The four calling birds were meant to represent The Four Gospels: 1) Matthew, 2) Mark, 3) Luke, and 4) John, which proclaim the Good News of God’s reconciliation of the world to Himself in Jesus Christ.

They are typically portrayed as an Angel, Lion, Ox, and an Eagle… not quite sure how they became “Calling Birds”. However I have a feeling it had to do with the memory version, of the song, for the kids.

Nativity Birth

(Licensed Image Source: *clarity*)
These gospels are telling us the story of Jesus from His birth through the Virgin Mary to His death.

Trinity at Crucifixion

(Licensed Image Source: jlwelsh)
Jesus was “perfect” and never needed to be punished, however, He took the punishment for the entire world through His crucifixion.

So, after Christmas is over and you have headed back to work or are preparing for the New Year keep this quote in mind…

“There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins;

Jesus\' Fountain

(Licensed Image Source: revjim5000)

Washed by His Blood in Jordan

(Licensed Image Source: karen horton)

and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains”~~ William Cowper

It isn’t just on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day that we should be thanking and praising Jesus for all He has done for us through his birth and existence. It should be every day, every minute, and every breath we take as we receive these things from Him who gives us all we need.

Merry Christmas and may the Blessings continue!

See you on the “Fifth Day of Christmas” tomorrow… “Five Golden Rings”.

On the Third Day of Christmas My True Love Gave Me Three French Hens

~On the Third Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me Three French Hens~

Three French Hens

(License Image Source: ktylerconk)

*

The Three French Hens represent 1) Faith, 2) Hope, and 3) Love.

I don’t know about you but when I struggle with something, whether it is for a short time or long time, what I end up doing is saying or thinking “I just need to have faith”.

Faith is what should automatically be there in the first place. If that came first then all else would fall into place without going through all that anxiety and worry. A great quote which reminds me of these times when I turn to faith as a last option is written by Zig Ziglar:

Zig Ziglar

*

“When you turn to God you discover He has been facing you all the time”.

Can you just imagine fretting and fretting and then you remember “Oh yeah… I need to have faith.” And then you turn around and God is right there before you and has been the entire time!!! How embarrassing!

I have a lot of Hope!

This is a word we freely use from childhood. I hope this and I hope that. One thing that I tend to hope for a lot this time of year is warm weather. I’m not much of a snow fan so starting around October, sad to say, I start saying things like… I hope the winter isn’t bad or I hope we don’t get a lot of snow. While Rick is saying…

“I hope we have a white Christmas.”

I’m thinking, I hope people in the South realize how fortunate they are! I think this is kind of a funny quote written by Bern Williams:

“The day the Lord created hope was probably the same day he created Spring”!

White Winter Christmas

(Licensed Imaged Scource: jonny.hunter)

*
I put the exclamation point on the end!! If you have lived through a Minnesnowta winter you can relate to the quote.

And then there is Love.

Love can be shown in so many different ways. We all have our own love language and the people in our lives that know what our love language is and fulfill those needs are the people that truly love us. That is why I know that Rick truly loves me. When we take “me” out of the picture you can find yourself so open to being a wonderfully loving person.

God is love.

It’s that simple.

I think that Corrie Ten Boom said it best. “There is no darkness that Satan can create that can shut the love of God out”.

No darkness! None.!

So on the third day of Christmas God gave us what we can read in 1 Corinthians 13:13…

Faith Hope Love

*
“Right now three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love”.

Merry Christmas and may the Blessings continue!

See you on the “Fourth Day of Christmas” tomorrow… “Four ‘Colly’ Birds”.

On The Second Day of Christmas~My True Love~Two Turtle Doves

On the Second Day of Christmas My True Love, (which now I know is symbolizing God in this song) gave to me Two Turtle Doves.

Two Turtle Doves

(Licensed Image Source: Hans van de Bruggen)

I think chocolate!

Of course with yummy caramel and nuts. And now I think of Mr. B. Chocolatier!!!

Mr B Chocolatier
Mr B Chocolatier

Okay, I’ll stop and get to the subject! But, “really” these chocolates are to die for!!

In the song that the ballerina dances to she puts one hand behind her back as the tail and the other by her mouth and makes a beak… one of the kids favorite poses.

No pic for that one!!!

However, the true symbolic meaning of the Two Turtle Doves written in this “coded” song is referencing the “Old and the New Testament”.

This is a complete gift from God! One part is not complete without the other.

We must have the Old Testament to understand why things happened in the New Testament. In both testaments God reveals Himself to us and how we are to come to Him through Jesus Christ. And in both testaments we find all we need for eternal life and godly living.

In researching more about the purposes of both Testaments I found these verses…

II Timothy 3:15-17…

Holy Scriptures

(Licensed Image Source: Brent Nelson)

15… and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

This song tells us that God gave us His word. What can we “give” during this time of celebration of His birth?

It doesn’t have to cost anything!

It can be a smile to someone who looks down, a hand to an elder, a shoulder to a friend, a kind word to your spouse.

All things we do every second of every day are gifts.

Imagine the possibilities!

Blessings once again…On the Third Day of Christmas… Three French Hens???

I still say God has a sense of humor!

On The First Day of Christmas~My True Love~Partridge~Pear Tree

~On the First Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me A Partridge in a Pear Tree~

~~

Welcome to The First Day of Christmas!

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
(License Image Source: Hans van de Bruggen)

*
We hope that your day has been filled with joy. The kind of joy that only God can give.

If you are having any kind of struggle today we just encourage you to look up and give it to the Lord. When I do this I always take a big deep breath and for me this releases all my burdens unto Him and joy is given.

As part of this Christmas season we would like to celebrate by sharing our thoughts and findings in relation to the song The Twelve Days of Christmas.

The first verse of the song is ‘my true love’’ ‘gave to me’ “A Partridge in a Pear Tree”.

My true love does not mean a worldly love. My true love is God. God gave to me is meant to be anyone that has accepted Christ as their Lord. The partridge represents Christ. Christ is represented as a mother partridge that would die for her children.

A Pear Tree is the symbol of the fall of the human race through the sin of Adam and Eve. It is also the symbol of its redemption by Jesus Christ on the tree of the Cross.

A perfect verse to visualize that Christ would do anything to protect His people is…

Luke 13:34…

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing”!

O\' Jerusalem, Jerusalem!

(License Image Source: nayrb7)

*

“The virgin will be with Child and give birth to a Son, and they will call him Immanuel”- which means “God with us”.~~Matthew 1:23

*

It is never too late to be willing to ask for Christ’s protection and love. Remember this is the first gift that God has given on this first day of Christmas.

I don’t know about you but I will never sing the song again without remembering that!

Please share your thoughts with us. It has been a lot of fun learning about the history of this song and we look forward to celebrating the Second Day.

Merry Christmas and may the Blessings continue!

See you on the “Second Day of Christmas” tomorrow… “Two Turtle Doves”.

Twelve Days of Christmas Lyrics/Song with Historical Accuracy

Whenever I think about the Twelve Days of Christmas, I have to be honest, I had never realized it was “Twelve Days of Christmas Lyrics/Song with “HISTORICAL ACCURACY”". I think about the days that I worked as a Student Assistant in Kindergarten.

dno1967

(Licensed Image source: dno1967)

You see, my son has this old VHS video of Frosty and Christmas. At the end of the movie is the song The Twelve Days of Christmas. During the song there is the silhouette of a ballerina dancing and with each day she moves her body in a way to represent the day of Christmas.

We had such a joy playing it each year and watching the little kids try to keep up to the moves of this ballerina! After practicing this for weeks the class would present their Twelve Days Of Christmas dance to the entire school!

Historical Accuracy

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace”.~~(Isaiah 9: 6)

~~~~~~~
~~For God so loved the world He gave… unto us a Child is born, twelve gifts, to the day of Epiphany for eternity… all wrapped in a swaddling cloth… with no room in the inn.~~
I’ll also admit that I have never taken any thought as to the true meaning behind this song until today. So I did a little research and found what I believe to be true is that this song was written in England as one of the “catechism songs” to help young Catholics learn the basics of their faith. The song was a coded so that the young Catholics could sing the song without fear of imprisonment as it was forbidden for them to sing of their faith.
Another of my findings is that the twelve days of Christmas does not start twelve days before Christmas. In the Western Church these are the twelve days from Christmas Day evening to the beginning of the Epiphany. Epiphany, meaning a Christian holiday on January 6 celebrating the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus.
You know how many of us have a nativity set that we put out during Christmas and there are the Three Kings? The Magi are the Three Kings or Kings from the East that are said to have visited Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts.
Religious Quote
In Mathew 2:11
(On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh).
Three gifts were mentioned so we typically believe there were only Three Kings but it is not known how many truly came. And, did you know, the Three Kings really didn’t show up until months after the Baby Jesus’ birth.
I wish that I had had the knowledge in my Kindergarten days that I have today regarding this song The Twelve Days of Christmas. I would have loved to have shared some of the true meanings of this song with those kids.
krisdecurtis
(Licensed Image Source: krisdecurtis)
Also, now when I look at our nativity set I won’t only think about Christmas but will also think about the Twelve Days of Christmas. We just had to add this picture for it’s beauty!
krisdecurtis
(Licensed Image Source: krisdecurtis)
We would now like to break the Twelve Days of Christmas down for the next twelve days, on a daily basis, celebrating every day, giving you the “true meaning” behind such a powerful song! The popular song is no longer seen as simply a nonsense song for children with secular origins.
On the twelfth day (Epiphany) we will put it all together for you, for “Your” enjoyment, to close Christmas for another year, however, keep His light shining to the next. We hope you enjoy the song with “The” new Light. We sure do!
We invite you to visit this Blog everyday to share some of our thoughts and quotes during this time of celebration.
Merry Christmas to you and God Bless.
See you on the “First Day of Christmas” tomorrow… “A Partridge In A Pear Tree”.
